Ulice lidem!/RTS Prague considers itself to be a part of international Reclaim the Streets and the anti-capitalist movement. Our roots originate in the first street parties held in 1998 and 1999 in Prague. Czech activist organised an ad hoc coalition to prepare these events. The same people, as well as many other Czech and international activists, were also involved in the Initiative Against Economic Globalisation(INPEG - Prague 2000), which organised the protests against the IMF and World Bank September 2000 meeting. This experience was enriching and inspiring, but it also taught us many lessons. We learned that we should split from sectarian fights and from the stiffed language, thoughts and attitudes of many leftist groups. We learned that especially in our country this can be the most direct way to become trapped within the activist ghetto. At the same time, we want to avoid the weak and liberal politics of Czech NGO's which lead to collaboration with the state. We want to pave the way to a just and ecological society through art and creativity. Therefore we have formed a group that is inspired by the principles of anarchism, libertarian Marxism, the dada and surrealist movements, situationism, and social ecology. We consider social ecology important because we are aware that ecological problems are rooted in social structures. We fight the state, we fight capitalism, but, first, we fight human foolishness. To do so we want to use direct action and fun tactics. So far, we have raised our voices against globalisation, but for many people it is still an abstract issue. Thus, we have decided to focus on drawing attention to local problems and the alienation of everyday-life in cities. We aim to to disorganize the present capitalist world by organising ourselves and inspiring other people frustrated by the system to do the same. As the part of growing anti-globalisation movement, we are committed to nonhierarchtical, antiautoritarian and anticapitalist ideals. We are open to new contacts, communication and links to other activists who value the basic principles that we do. We know that our struggle and solidarity must be international.
